United States: President Trump has once again plunged into the thick of political crossfire—this time, ignited by the Justice Department’s shrouded treatment of Jeffrey Epstein’s case files.
In a fiery outburst Wednesday, Trump unloaded on critics from both the opposing aisle and within his own political orbit—those urging deeper clarity around the federal probe into Epstein, the disgraced financier whose jailhouse demise in 2019 continues to fuel shadowy suspicions. Without furnishing proof, Trump dismissed the uproar as a fabricated tale, branding it the “Epstein Hoax.”
Despite once vowing to make Epstein-linked documents public, Trump’s own Justice Department recently announced that no further materials would be released. They outright denied the existence of the infamous “client list,” a revelation that riled up corners of the MAGA base.
Taking to Truth Social and facing the press, Trump fumed—not only at Democrats, whom he accused of concocting a politically charged charade—but also at erstwhile allies now echoing those calls for transparency, according to npr.org.
“Their newest CON is what we’ll forever stamp as the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax,” Trump thundered, ramping up his allegation that these files are phantoms summoned by political enemies aiming to damage his standing.
He didn’t hold back on those once in his corner, scorning their embrace of the narrative as “bull****,” and rebuked them for swallowing it “hook, line, and sinker.”
“Let the spineless keep dancing for Democrats—don’t bother speaking of our record-breaking victories, because I don’t want their praise anymore!” Trump exclaimed.
From the White House later, Trump escalated his tone, calling GOP dissenters “foolish” and “dense.” He ridiculed their focus on Epstein, calling it a waste of breath on a long-deceased man with a sordid past.
“We’ve got milestones—major accomplishments—to talk about. But instead, they’re squandering energy on a man who died four years ago under grim circumstances,” Trump said, pivoting quickly to highlight border security concerns. He blamed liberal policies for opening the gates to “gangsters and prison runaways from everywhere,” adding, “They flooded in, but I’m the one stopping it.”
However, not all conservatives are toeing the line. Big-name Republicans like Speaker Mike Johnson and firebrand Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene continue to demand clarity on Epstein. Right-wing pundits such as Tucker Carlson and Laura Loomer have also slammed the DOJ’s tight-lipped approach.
Trump, in turn, has been urging his loyalists to drop the Epstein narrative entirely.
“Stop burning your fuel on Epstein—nobody’s losing sleep over him,” Trump declared recently on social media. He doubled down, throwing his full support behind Bondi’s conduct during the DOJ’s investigation.
“We’re one tribe, MAGA—but I’m not happy with what I’m seeing,” he said over the weekend, as reported by npr.org.
This hardline stance has unsettled parts of Trump’s support base, especially those who see the Epstein saga as proof of a broader, darker network at play—one that aligns with QAnon-style claims of a secret pedophilic elite that Trump is meant to dismantle.
While Trump and figures from his circle have previously played footsie with these fringe theories, their recent pivot away from transparency has left many followers feeling betrayed and confused.
“They’re stuck trying to believe two clashing things at once, trying to force harmony between them,” said Mike Rothschild, a journalist who tracks conspiracy culture.
As the rift widens, one thing remains clear: Trump’s effort to steer the conversation back to his administration’s wins is being undercut by the ghost of Epstein, whose shadow refuses to disappear from the political stage.
