Trump’s $5M Card: Prestige, Power… and a Path to US Residency?

Trump introduced the “Trump Card” — a high-tier, $5 million immigration pathway targeting wealthy elites, innovators, and specialists seeking legal US residency.

United States: In an electrifying digital proclamation shared late Wednesday, President Trump highlighted a high-end immigration avenue dubbed the “Trump Card,” an exclusive $5 million ticket that grants elite international individuals a pathway to lawful US presence.

Echoing with grandeur, Trump announced:
“FOR FIVE MILLION $DOLLARS, THE TRUMP CARD IS COMING,”
portraying the plan as a majestic route into what he heralds as “the Greatest Country and Market anywhere in the World.”

This lavish visa concept first glimmered in February under the moniker “gold card” — a shimmering nod to the traditional green card, but reimagined for tycoons and prodigies who wish to leap conventional immigration hurdles.

Now that the digital portal Trumpcard.gov is active, intrigued applicants can queue up digitally, entering their credentials to await the official announcement of access. The landing page blares in bold, capitalized script: “The Trump Card is Coming.”

Inside the Portal: The Entry Ritual

Hopefuls must furnish first and last names and declare if they are applying as individuals, business ventures, or for others, such as spouses or dependents. Additionally, they must identify their geographic origin, with listed territories spanning:

  • Europe
  • Asia (Middle East included)
  • North America
  • Oceania
  • Central America
  • South America
  • Caribbean
  • Africa

Additionally, aspirants must provide an email to be added to the waitlist — a digital threshold for this elite initiative.

Gold Card with a Face: Visual Allure and Symbolism

The card’s visual form is just as opulent — a gilded finish adorned with Trump’s own visage, the Statue of Liberty, an embossed “5M,” and the signature of the president himself — marrying power, patriotism, and personal branding into a single slab of symbolism, according to CBS News.

The Vision Behind the Velvet Rope

Earlier this spring, President Trump extolled the plan as a deluxe, future-forward sibling of the green card:
“It’s like the green card — but more refined, more potent. And they’ll contribute to our economy through taxation.”

According to him, this pathway may not just offer legal residency but could evolve into a track toward citizenship — a journey not only for the ultra-wealthy but also for visionaries, creatives, and specialists whose talents might be sponsored by corporations.

He explained:
“We’re designing a gateway for people of distinction — whether that’s wealth or genius. And where firms can sponsor brilliance by backing the cost.”

Legal Crosscurrents and Constitutional Queries

However, the legitimacy of this elite card remains murky. Immigration experts suggest that rolling out such a visa avenue would necessitate Congressional greenlighting. According to Herman Legal Group, this isn’t something a president can implement unilaterally.

Though there’s talk of leveraging “parole” authority — a discretionary measure used by the Biden administration for immigrant entry — there’s skepticism about its fit here. The Cato Institute raised red flags, highlighting the Trump administration’s own critique of broad parole usage:
“It’s implausible that individuals would gamble $5 million on a mechanism with shaky legality and revocable status.”

Economic Windfall or Illusion?

The Trump administration envisions this card as the spiritual successor to the beleaguered EB-5 visa program, launched in 1990, which ties residency to investments that fuel job creation in the United States.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick minced no words in dismissing the existing program:
“It’s brimming with fantasy, fraud, and fabrication.”

Trump himself projected towering expectations: a potential sale of 1 million Trump Cards, translating into a staggering $5 trillion in capital infusion, as per reports by CBS News.

An Immigrant’s Golden Ticket or a Mirage?

The Trump Card may be cloaked in wealth and wrapped in prestige, but questions loom like shadows at sunset — about lawfulness, ethics, and equity. While some may see it as a masterstroke of immigration innovation, others perceive it as a transactional twist on the American Dream.

Time will reveal whether this golden gateway becomes a lasting avenue or simply another glimmering ghost in the ever-complex immigration saga.
